A plant is considered native if it has occurred naturally in a particular region, ecosystem, or habitat without human introduction (i.e., typically not landscape-type plants); they are sometimes referred to as indigenous plants. Native plants help the environment the most when planted in places that match their growing requirements. They will thrive in the soils, moisture and weather of your region (USDA Hardiness Zone 8a). Native plants may be trees, shrubs, annuals or perennials, so you will see all listed below. These are but a few varieties that we typically have in stock year-round. Please note that supplies of specific items may vary, so you may wish to call ahead to check availability.
Agastache foeniculum
This plant likes FULL SUN. At maturity, it gets 2-3 tall by 1-2 feet wide at a MODERATE growth rate. Produces spikes of blooms in a variety of shades including purple, pink, red and orange in mid summer before dropping its leaves in the winter.
Asteraceae
There are many varieties of this plant, but in general, this plant likes FULL to PART SUN. At maturity, it gets 16 inches tall and 12-14 inches wide. Produces a variety of colored blooms late summer to early fall.
Astilbe chinensis
There are many varieties of this plant, but in general, this plant likes FILTERED SUN to PART SHADE. At maturity, it gets 8 inches tall and 12-24 inches wide. Produces a variety of colored blooms in the midsummer.
Baptisia australis
Also known as 'Wild Indigo,' this plant likes PART to FULL SUN. At maturity, it gets 3-4 tall by 3-4 feet wide at a MODERATE growth rate. Produces periwinkle colored blooms from May to June. Plant in your yard to attract butterflies.
Monarda didyma 'Jacob Cline'
This plant likes PART to FULL SUN. At maturity, it gets 4-5 tall by 1-1.5 feet wide at a MODERATE growth rate. Produces bright red colored blooms from early summer to early fall. Plant in your yard to attract butterflies.
Rudbeckia hirta 'Cherry Brandy'
This plant likes PART to FULL SUN. At maturity, it gets 2 feet tall by 1 feet wide at a FAST growth rate. Produces reddish pink colored blooms from mid summer to fall. Plant in your yard to attract butterflies.
Rudbeckia hirta 'Denver Daisy'

Rudbeckia hirta 'Maya'
This plant likes PART to FULL SUN. At maturity, it gets 1-2 tall by 1-2 feet wide at a MODERATE growth rate. Produces double flowered, golden colored blooms from mid summer to fall. Plant in your yard to attract butterflies.
This NATIVE Rabbiteye plant likes full sun and grows 6-8' x 6-8' and requires 450 chill hours and requires a pollinator.
This NATIVE, Rabbiteye plant likes FULL SUN and is the rabbiteye variety. At maturity, it gets 6 feet tall and 4 feet wide at a MODERATE growth rate. It blooms in the spring and produces fruit in the summer before dropping leaves in the winter. Must be planted with another blueberry, rabbiteye variety in order to produce fruit. Requires 550 chill hours.
This NATIVE, Rabbiteye plant likes FULL SUN and is the rabbiteye variety. At maturity, it gets 6 feet tall and 7 feet wide at a MODERATE growth rate. Dianthus caryophyllus
There are many varieties of this plant, but in general, this plant likes FULL to PART SUN. At maturity, it gets 10 inches tall and 14 inches wide. Produces a variety of colored blooms during the spring and summer.
Juniperus virginiana
This tree likes FULL SUN. At maturity, it gets 40-50 feet tall and 8-20 feet wide. It grows at a MODERATE rate into a conical shape. Produces small, blue berries. Plant this in your yard or along your fence line as a screener plant.
Gaillardia
This plant likes FULL SUN. At maturity, it gets 1.5 feet tall by 2 feet wide at a MODERATE growth rate. Produces orange-yellow blooms from late spring to late summer. Plant this in your yard to attract butterflies.
Oenothera lindheimeri
There are many varieties of this plant, but in general, this plant likes FULL SUN. At maturity, it gets 18 inches tall and 20 inches wide. Produces a variety of colored blooms on red stems during the early spring through fall.

Hibiscus moscheutos 'Kopper King'
Distinctive copper-red, lobed, maple-like leaves provide a striking backdrop to the huge, hollyhock-like light pink flowers with red veining and a bright red eye. This vigorous selection has a compact, rounded form and blooms over a long season, making it a perfect addition to the shrub or perennial border. Deciduous.

Lord Baltimore is the famous classic red with blooms up to 10 inches across. All-time favorite nationwide.

Leaves start burgundy in the spring and change to green in the summer and yellow in the fall before dropping in the winter. This tree is NATIVE to the Midlands.

This tree likes FULL SUN to PART SHADE. At maturity, it gets 20-30 feet tall and 20-30 feet wide. It grows at a MODERATE growth rate and produces pink flowers on bare branches in the spring. Foliage is burgundy and drops in the winter. This tree is NATIVE to the Midlands.

This tree likes FULL SUN to PART SHADE. At maturity, it gets 40-50 feet tall and 30-40 feet wide. It grows at a FAST growth rate and has paper-like peeling bark. Foliage turns yellow before dropping in the fall. Plant this in wet areas of your yard.
